TALES OF CREEPING DEATH / FEATURE FILM
"Five tales full of horror, comedy and most importantly, Creeping Death. You better pray for your soul"
Tales of Creeping Death is an Anthology Feature, Written and Directed by John Williams. The film is made up of five individual short films, all tied together by the Narrator. With numerous Cinematographers involved, I was invited to shoot the first story- Terror in the Skies.
Filming took place in the beautiful Valleys of Mid Wales, a perfect location for the 'disappearance of civilisation'. After speaking with John about the style of this film, it became evident that this story required a lot of camera movement. We wanted to fully immerse the audience into this stunning location, following the characters on a journey to discover any hope for life.
In order to do this, we shot many sequences on Steadicam, allowing us to quickly move through spaces without having to pre-lay any tracking systems.
The second to last scene of the film takes place in an abandoned hotel. The action involved another tricky Steadicam sequence, tracking the main characters backwards through the hotel as they run outside into garden. Any DP that has shot a long sequence before will know how complex they cab be to light, primarily because the entire set is often shown and this was no exception!
We needed to produce a large beam of light, stretching the entire ground floor of the hotel, implying a 'War of the Worlds' scenario was unfolding. It required rigging lots of lights externally, using a mixture of Arri and Aputure lighting effects, so that everything could be timed perfectly.
The film is set for release in early 2021 and I'm super excited to see how this looks!
